Time to make it cosy!

So, we’ve passed the first Sunday of Advent (did you light the first candle?) and it’s high time to start planning for Christmas (or winter!) decorations. For us who live in student apartment, there might not be room for nor money to spend on a bunch of stuff. However, there are decorations you can DIY to make your home a little cozier. Here are five tips:

Pinecones, cinnamon and cloves – Perfect for hanging in the tree if you’ve got one – just tie a cute jute string or thread around them. Or, you could make the classic potpourri by taking a plate or bowl, placing a bunch of spices in there and enjoy the rustic look of it.

Paper stars – Buy some nice paper or use an old magazine, some wrapping paper or old wallpaper. Draw a star and cut it out or fold a beautiful paper star. Make a big one and hang it in the window or many small ones for the tree or the wall (since they’re so lightweight, you can easily put them up with a pin or some washi tape).

Icing – This is a real middle school kind of decoration – super cute in the tree. Make figures with the icing on a baking sheet (you can use a plastic bag and cut off a corner to be able to do detailed decorations), let dry and maybe put an angel bookmark on there too!

Dried orange slices – Last year, we did a post on how to make the world’s easiest Christmas decoration which also adds a little color to these dark December days. They make super pretty garlands, decorations for the tree or on Christmas presents (try combining with some cinnamon, looks delightful!).

Candles – Ok, so this might be a given, but what a difference a couple of lit candles do for a space! And look, there’s really no need for an adventsljusstake, four candlesticks next to each other looks great too. Or four tealights in holders.

Hope you’re having a warm and happy time at home. Hope our tips gave you some inspiration to create something. Be well and take care!
