Hey!
How are you doing? Are you looking forward to midsummer? This year will surely be a little different from other years – no huge parties or dancing little frogs with strangers. But that doesn’t mean we can’t celebrate! To get ready for Friday’s dinner and mini celebrations, we’re thinking about flowers and more precisely flower crowns. If you’re interested in making one, we’ll share how to below.
For a traditional midsummer flower crown, here’s what you’ll need:
- A bouquet of small flowers you like
- Wire of some kind
- Scissors
- Floral tape
Firstly, you’ll want to make your base: use your wire and make a circle that fits your head. Wrap the ends with tape.
Then, take your flowers and make tiny bouquets of 5 or so small flowers. Trim the stems so that they’re about 5–10 cm long and tie each tiny bouquet together by wrapping floral tape around them.
When you’ve made as many tiny bouquets as you think you’ll need, start attaching them to the outside of your base. Use the tape and overlap so that the stems don’t show too much. Continue until you’ve got a beautiful flower crown!

If you’re not that into the traditional crown, here are some other suggestions for headpieces for midsummer:
- Green diadem: take a diadem or headband and attach ivy or some other cool green leaves onto it with flower tape or washi tape.
- Massive flower headpiece: make a clean base with wire and attach a single huge flower onto it. Think lilac, peony or sunflower. Or maybe a dahlia!
- Fabric flower headband: Buy at your favorite store or make one yourself! You could use fabric flower broches or make flowers from scrap fabric and attach to a headband or elastic.
Hope you found our tips useful. Have a lovely midsummer’s eve!
Lots of love,
