DIY:s That will Save You Money

Time for new habits

We all love a little money saving, don’t we? Here are a few DIY:s to make into new habits that will save you money and make you a little eco-friendlier all at the same time!

Buy dry lentils and beans and cook them yourself. Buy your lentils and beans in bulk, soak them and then cook them all at the same time. After that you just put them in the freezer in portions. Saves you money and time. Plus, you don’t have to carry the extra weight of canned water from the store …

Bring lunch from home. Yeah, this one is a real winner that we’ve talked about before. Here are some tips on what to put in your lunchbox.

Bake your own bread. Try experimenting with different ingredients – seeds, fruits, vegetables and why not sourdough? Try changing with your neighbors. Who knows, it might be a new common hobby for your whole student accommodation! Make several loafs at the same time, slice and freeze!

Re-use old paper or magazines for giftwrapping. Newspapers, magazines and tissue paper from old packaging make for really nice gift wrapping! Pair it with rustic jute string or a pretty ribbon.

Make your own bars or snacks. There are many ways to make snacks to nibble on when studying. Oats and sunflower seeds are cheap and healthy and make a great base. Then add fruit, nut butter, honey or even some chocolate! Whether you make bars or just mix it all in a jar, making them yourself will save you alooot of money.

Pick nettles. Get out in nature and get your food; nettles are super cheap (obviously) and healthy! Remember to check that you pick the right thing, and wear gloves – dish washing gloves work just fine. Make soup or nettle pesto.

Sell and buy stuff in our housing app. Go through your wardrobe and sell what you don’t use in our housing app. Then look for things you need there too. Have you gotten your login? If not, contact the student ambassador at your student accommodation!
